That wasn't a contraction, was it?

For the past few weeks I've noticed my blood pressure starting to get up there, but nothing too concerning (nothing over 140/90 which is the OB's cutoff to call). That changed on Friday evening when I started getting reading above 140/90 and started to get a little concerned. I just tried to take it easy and when I woke up on Saturday morning I checked it again. Crap. It was 146/95! It stayed around that range all day Saturday so I decided to call my OB. He said to put my feet up and relax until I saw him on Tuesday (but to call back if it got over 150/100). Sunday I had a few readings where my top # was over 150 and a few where my bottom # was above 100 - but never together. I called their office first thing Monday morning to let them know and they told me yet again to put my feet up and come in Tuesday. I went to work Monday and Tuesday (because I really had no choice) and had my appt yesterday at 12:30.

The appointment started out exciting with an ultrasound! He was measuring big at my last appointment so they wanted to see if there was a reason. He looked PERFECT! He was measuring a little ahead, but nothing too alarming. His head is measuring full term though! Oh no! The u/s tech said, "good luck with that!." Ummm, thanks. Then she said his estimated weight is 6lbs3oz right now at almost 36 wks! Wowsers! So, he's definitely a healthy boy =)

I then went to see the doctor and my uterus is measuring 42 wks. My bp was 166/102 though so not good at all. She had me rest on my left side and take it again and it only went down to 158/88 so that was my one way ticket to the hospital for monitoring. =( Before I left he did a quick internal and I'm 1cm dilated but still high and thick, whatever that means. So then we head to the hospital...

Once we got there they hooked me up to the monitors. I had the same nurse that taught the birthing class so I was comfortable with her and my bp was actually pretty good the whole time I was there. (Actually, at one point it got too LOW!) But after being there for about 30 minutes or so I asked, "That wasn't a contraction, was it?" She said, "Oh, it's just a BH probably" and just shrugged it off. About 30 minutes later she comes in and says, "Guess who just got themselves an IV?" She said that I was having contractions every 2 minutes for the last 40 minutes and they were showing on the monitor! She said that my OB didn't want to give me anything to stop them b/c he was scared it would up my bp - so I just got some IV hydration and continued to wait. 3 hrs later the contractions were still coming good and strong (not really painful though) and very consistent. They gave me some more fluids and around 7:30 they stopped! Woohoo! We were finally dischared around 9 and I was wiped!

My poor pup was so happy to see us! She had been in her kennel since 8:30AM! (Mike's mom let her out around 5p for about 30 minutes... but that's not enough for my active dog!) We need to get a plan in place for her for D-day b/c she was WILD when we got home.. she was still running around the house this morning at 2AM! Crazy dog!

Anyways, I'm taking it easy today (didn't go to work) and I have the rest of the week off! The doc said if my bp is decent, I can go back to work on Monday, but we'll take it one day at a time. My next appointment is Tuesday and I assume I'm going weekly until I deliver?

Now, what you all are waiting for - pictures!! (He looks JUST like Mike as a baby, too cute!)

I love the new blog look and the update (amazing what a day of bedrest can do)!!!

Luke is SO beautiful and I can't wait to meet him (although a few more weeks would be preferable).

Angie,
I think I might have a contraction (from surprise) since you actually posted here! ;) I'm glad to know everything is okay at this point. Remember too, that they can be way off on the size of the baby...
My friend was told hers was 10 lbs-so they did an automatic c-section-and he was only 8 lbs 1 oz! :)

Haha! I knew you'd all be shocked that I actually updated! Like Mary said, it's because I'm actually NOT working and bored out of my mind! I think the only good thing about this "bedrest" is that I can update my blog! haha!

When I said you didn't have much longer, I didn't mean you should take it so literally! Keep that boy baking in there a couple more weeks, please. And I agree with Cara, the weights and measurements are notoriously inaccurate this late in the game. Don't get too worried :-) Relax, kick back and keep that BP down. And keep us posted!

Sounds like you could very well have him in the next couple of weeks! Good luck Angie!

I hope your BP behaves itself, and that you are able to get some rest this week. SO glad you are both doing well!
